History
Since its founding in 1936 by Averill Harriman of the Union Pacific Railroad, Sun Valley's location was designed to rival European destinations such as St. Moritz and Gstaad.  To promote America's first year round destination resort, Harriman christened it "Sun Valley" and the Wood River valley began its transformation from a mining and sheep herding center to world-class outdoor playground.  Sun Valley is famous for inventing the chairlift, sending world class talent to the Olympics and other professional sporting events, as well as its Hollywood stars.  (Clint Eastwood, Demi Moore, Bruce Willis, Tom Hanks, Robin Williams, and others have homes in the area...)

Location
Sun Valley is located in central Idaho, a short 2.5 hour drive from Boise, 1 hour from Twin Falls, and 30 minutes from Hailey, Idaho (SUN).  Alaska Airlines and Delta/Skywest provide daily service to the locations above from all over the US.  There is also non-stop service from Seattle, Salt Lake City, and Los Angeles directly into Hailey, Idaho (SUN).
